MONTANA POINTS SYSTEM
Montana contestants are allowed to take their best 15 rodeos into the state rodeo for a maximum of 150 points going into state.
State Finals – 80 pts available in the 1st go, 2nd go, average and Championship Round.
New for the 2023-24 season: Average Points at state will be given after the 1st and 2nd go rounds are completed.
The Top 16 in the HS Standings and the Top 12 in the JH Standings after the 1st two go rounds and average will compete in the Championship Round. State rodeo champions will be determined after the completion of the 1st two go rounds and the average. The top 4 competitors in the standings in each event after the Championship Round will be the national qualifiers.
How points/standings are done at state:
Points Carried In + 1st Go + 2nd Go + Average on 2 runs + Championship Round = National Qualifiers
Qualifying rodeo points and state rodeo points will be distributed as shown below.
Qualifying Rodeo Points: State Rodeo Points (per round, average & championship round):
1st - 10 pts 1st - 20 pts
2nd - 9 pts 2nd - 18 pts
3rd - 8 pts 3rd - 16 pts
4th - 7 pts 4th - 14 pts
5th - 6 pts 5th - 12 pts
6th - 5 pts 6th - 10 pts
7th - 4 pts 7th - 8 pts
8th - 3 pts 8th - 6 pts
9th - 2 pts 9th - 4 pts
10th - 1 pt 10th - 2 pts
Cutting and Reined Cow Horse season points will not count towards the all-around, only the points earned at state finals will count towards the all-around. Shooting Sports will not count toward the all-around.
