MONTANA POINTS SYSTEM
Montana contestants are allowed to take their best 15 rodeos into the state rodeo for a maximum of 150 points going into state.
State Finals – 100 pts available in the 1st go, 2nd go, average, and Short Round.
State Finals Format:
State Finals will consist of two (2) go-rounds for all contestants in all events.
The State Rodeo Champions for both the High School and Junior High divisions will be determined by the best cumulative time or score from the first go-round, second go-round, and short go-round. The event average will also be based on the combined results of all three (3) rounds.
High School Short Go Qualification
The High School short go will consist of a minimum of 16 contestants, determined as follows:
The Top 12 contestants in the standings after the completion of the first two go-rounds, including all contestants tied for 12th place.
The Top 4 contestants in the average after the completion of the first two go-rounds.
If a contestant qualifies under both criteria, the duplicate qualifying position will be awarded to the next highest-ranked contestant in the standings after the completion of the first two go-rounds. This process will continue until a minimum of 16 qualifying positions have been filled. If ties at the qualifying cutoff result in more than 16 contestants, all tied contestants will advance to the short go.
Junior High Short Go Qualification
The Junior High short go will consist of a minimum of 12 contestants, determined as follows:
The Top 8 contestants in the standings after the completion of the first two go-rounds, including all contestants tied for 8th place.
The Top 4 contestants in the average after the completion of the first two go-rounds.
If a contestant qualifies under both criteria, the duplicate qualifying position will be awarded to the next highest-ranked contestant in the standings after the completion of the first two go-rounds. This process will continue until a minimum of 12 qualifying positions have been filled. If ties at the qualifying cutoff result in more than 12 contestants, all tied contestants will advance to the short go.

Cutting, Reined Cow Horse, and Shooting Sports season points will not count towards the all-around, only the points earned at state finals will count towards the all-around. In order for Shooting Sports points earned at state to count towards the all-around, the contestant must also be competing in an arena event.
